Wakefield Newborn Photographer| What to Expect

As a Wakefield In-home newborn photographer, I photograph Newborns in Wakefield, Reading, Melrose, Stoneham, Lynnfield, Danvers, and other towns in the North Shore. I often find that most people don’t really know what to expect when they are booking a newborn session. Finished photos from newborn sessions often depict calm/happy babies in a clean house. While I do hope for a happy baby, this is oftentimes NOT the case….and you know what? It’s ok! Let’s break it down for you on what a typical newborn session looks like:

We don’t need a spotless house.

Rather, focus on just a few areas in your home that have good lighting. Many times this includes portions of the nursery or master bedroom as well as living room. We can easily shove a laundry basket out of the frame, please don’t stress about a clean house!

We Follow the Baby’s Lead.

This means, that we take lots of breaks- feeding breaks, diaper changes, and other breaks. Because of this, newborn sessions are very flexible and organic. I usually suggest that you feed the baby right before the session, but usually they will still need breaks. Baby’s needs come first!

Toddlers and older siblings do not have to behave perfectly to get great photos!

Usually older siblings are going through a lot of change with a newborn sibling and need extra grace. Allow them to break some rules (like jumping on the bed) during the session, or even allow them to be in charge of something they want to do in front of the camera. As a Wakefield newborn photographer I have found that giving toddlers a little bit of autonomy during sessions goes a long way. Remember- toddlers need breaks almost just as much as their newborn siblings, and a perfectly behaved toddler is not expected.
