There are graduations and weddings and new babies that we want to document, and then there are more general things we want to capture- such as a season of life. I remember when I was homeschooling during COVID and I wanted a picture to document me teaching my older two kids with my two year old standing on my chair with her chubby arms around my neck. I wanted to remember how beautiful and hard that year was. In Suzy’s case , it was a place that she didn’t want to forget. A place that signified much more to her than a short term house rental. So, the night before the move (to another home in Wakefield), I came over and we documented parts of the house and property that were special to her.
Once I arrived, it was easy to understand why Suzy wanted to document it- this house was amazing. Stone structures from the 1800s (where there was once a greenhouse), a carriage house with the original stone, pea gravel and spring bulbs…..this place was magical and surprisingly on a busy unassuming street right in the heart of residential Wakefield, MA.
As always, my favorite images are when the kids are playing and being themselves. Photos are meant to capture memories and seasons of life so that one day we can look back and remember how things were. This is my favorite part of family photography.
This session is a good reminder, that we don’t need huge celebrations as an excuse to document the seasons of life or chapters we don’t want to forget.
